Brown Sugar Smokies

I’m a little obsessed with pigs-in-a-blanket, but this recipe takes that into a whole new direction.  The “blanket” here is bacon.  Who wouldn’t love this??  We all did.

A few notes about this:

  1. The recipe suggests getting center-cut bacon but mine was so much pricier I just went with regular.
  2. Also, it tells you to get “cocktail sausages” but I highly recommend you get Hillshire Farm Beef Lit’l Smokies.  If you’ve ever bitten into one of those cocktail weenies and had some weird hard thing in it, you know you lose your interest in eating any more of them.  The BEEF ones don’t have whatever this is, so you’ll be safe and get only a satisfying bite every time.
  3. The recipe called for 1 cup of brown sugar but I couldn’t get more than maybe ½ tsp to stay on each one, so I’d say that is really exaggerated.

We were thinking these might make an excellent snack for Super Bowl Sunday. Do you have any go-to appetizers we might include on the menu? Comment and share!
